The Dark of Night.

Once again I find myself writing an article where I end up eating my own words. This all started when Matt sent me a text wanting me to write an article for a car of which he attached a thumbnail-sized photo. So glancing at it during a red light on my way home from work I say to myself “Ah that’s a slick-ass S5!”
THEN I got the flickr link to the actual pictures…

At that point, thoughts immediately went to “That’s a Honda?!?” and proceeded to put my foot in my mouth. Now allow me to explain myself; it isn’t every day that you see an Accord as mean as this one. Actually, scratch that…it isn’t ever (at least in my neck of the woods). “I wasn’t into Hondas at all before purchasing it but my girlfriend urged me to go look at it and I fell in love,” says Brian.

And that’s just it! I have driven about my normal day seeing them, and even subconsciously saying to myself “It’s a decent looking Honda stock.” However, it’s hard to find a really good looking one without yellow fogs and stupid wheels. I have always been of the opinion that the 8th gen Accord coupes always had potential to look good, but had yet to see anyone pull it off to the near-perfection that Brian has.

“There originally was no goal for the car. I had never done any suspension or ‘fitment’ mods before and it wasn’t until I got onto the 8th gen accord forums that I started seeing all the lowered cars and I thought ‘I’d like to clear up some of that wheel gap’… it never happens that way though; there is always an urge to go even lower. After coilovers, I really wanted to do the whole stance thing so I went through a couple sets of wheels and spacers (7 sets of spacers to be exact) to find what offset was right for me, along with doing a good amount of fender work.” –Brian

Brain has taken what most would consider a normally bland car and, in my opinion, has truly punctuated what I’d like to think the Honda designers were trying to go for during modeling stages. This…this is the car that you see in the designer sketches, wishing they would send it to production as-is before the accounting team can get their hands on it. The page full of eraser marks until the darkened lines form the outline of a phantom beast that will never be.
Brian has created a masterpiece.
